Banlys MFD

Mobile Field Data

Opt-in multi-sensor readings from phones in the field — magnetometer, motion, light, pressure, and entropy summaries — with calibration and quality labels. Built for researchers studying environmental and mobile-sensing correlation.

Where the data comes from

Banlys MFD packages are derived from opt-in research contributions collected through Banlys mobile sensing applications. Packages include multi-sensor readings, coarse location (~100 m), and quality metadata as documented in the data dictionary. They do not include media files or account identifiers. Sharing is voluntary and can be turned off anytime in the contributing apps.

What you get

Institutions receive the instrumented field sample under license. Banlys retains separate internal analysis and tooling outside the public product.

Measurements

  • Coarse location (~100 m)
  • Multi-sensor channels from consumer phones
  • Calibration, gold / standard, degenerate flags
  • Instrument metadata (device family, charging, activity)

What this is not

  • Not medical, safety, or hazard detection
  • No photos, audio, video, or emails in research exports
  • Not SI-calibrated lab instruments
  • Coverage is uneven — honesty over hype

How access works

Apply with a research or institutional email. After approval, download a versioned package — data, dictionary, and terms. Seats are licensed access, not one-off file shopping.
